(APPJ) and other donors which has actively contributed to efforts to restore Sumatra's tropical forests through Belantara Foundation’s project the Forest Restoration Project: SDGs Together program that has been going on for the last two years.
The Forest Restoration Project: SDGs Together started in August 2020 and continues to date. This program is a restoration program located in and around the Giam Siak Kecil Bukit Batu Biosphere Reserve with the aim of restoring forest areas that have been degraded due to illegal activities and also forest fires. Through this program, Belantara has restored at least 47 hectares of land in the last two years and is targeting 30 hectares of land next year. This program also contributes to the reporting of four SDGs goals at once, goal 12 "Responsible Consumption and Production", goal 13 "Climate Action'', goal 15 "Life on Land'', and goal 17 "Partnerships for the Goals." In addition, this program also contributes to efforts to cultivate and care for rare tree seedlings such as ramin (Gonystylus bancanus), Lophostemon (Lophostemon sp.), and geronggang (Cratoxylon arborescens), and other multi-use plants.
Measuring many positive impacts of the programs that have been carried out together over the past two years, Belantara Foundation expresses its deep gratitude to all donors who have continuously provided support for the success of this program. Apart from that, Belantara also hopes that there will be more multi-stakeholder collaboration in the future.
"By being involved in the EcoPro 2022 Exhibition, we hope that multi stakeholder collaboration, especially between the government, private sector, and NGOs in efforts to protect and restore Indonesia's tropical forests can be socialized, we hope that more APPJ’s business partners will participate in supporting this movement", said Dolly.
